Winter Weather Scenarios
Learn to Prevent and Treat Cold Injuries
This hands-on seminar is perfect for those wanting to brush up their Wilderness First Aid skills, or for any backcountry enthusiast wanting to learn what to do in the event of a cold injury. Course content includes:
- Mechanisms of heat loss and heat generation
- Common risk factors for cold injuries
- Signs and symptoms of hypothermia
- Signs and symptoms of frostbite
- Creating hypo-wraps
- Scenario practice
A previous Wildnerness First Aid course is a prerequisite for this class. Students are encouraged to bring gear they might have for winter excursions such as tarps, z-rests, sleeping bags, etc. Extra gear makes scenarios more realistic.
This seminar will be led by Matty P. who brings a decade of experience leading climbs in the alpine environment. With 15 years of ice climbing experience, 7 seasons of ski patrol and 6 years of mountain rescue work he brings a unique perspective to this Wilderness First Aid refresher.
Cancellations, Refunds, Terms:
Cancellations by individuals received more than 48 hours before class start time will receive a full refund less a $10 service fee per enrollment. Individuals are eligible to transfer their class registration if request is received more than 48 hours before class (refunds will not be issued if transferring to a class of lesser tuition). Cancellations by groups* received more than 10 days before class start time will receive a full refund less a $10 service fee per enrollment. Requests received after the stated deadlines will not be eligible for a refund or transfer.
*A group is 4 or more individuals signed up by one person or organization for the same class session.
